The Municipal Building is a Grade II listed building on Dale Street, Liverpool, built in 1866 by Liverpool Town Council to accommodate the growing number of council administrative staff. In the New York Times in 1984, R.W. Apple Jr wrote; “In the Municipal Buildings, built on a heroic scale and decorated with splendid mosaics in Liverpool’s era of magnificence”.
In 2016, the building was surplus to requirement and too expensive for Liverpool Council to run and maintain, with its sale to Singapore-based property develop Fragrance Group announced in January 2016. Fragrance Group intend to convert the building in to a four-star hotel and restaurant. Announcing plans to sell the building in September, Cabinet member for regeneration Cllr Malcolm Kennedy said: “The Municipal Buildings has been a magnificent home for Liverpool City Council since the 1860s, but it is a very costly building to run and maintain and we no longer have the staff numbers to justify retaining it”.
Our client, Falconer Chester Hall requested our 360° Spherical Imagery services to document the current look and layout of each room within the building. Using our NCTech iStar camera, our team photographed each room / space within the building including basements, old vaults, mezzanine floors and the iconic bell tower.
Following the data collection, our team created a virtual tour of the building to create a historical record and enable the end user to navigate through the building and inspect each room in its current condition. This service formed one element of a full measured survey of the entire building (internally & externally) and the surrounding roads and service road.
